This is The Libercontrarian:

Gun owner. Married. Ex-Navy.

A Christian, but not too sinless. Foul-mouthed, sarcastic, a little self-righteous. Sometimes angry. Jocluar. A bit of a crusader. A great friend. A pretty decent American.

In The Aftermath

filbert, at Medary.com, writes:

"I'll say it once: looters should be shot on sight. No arguments, no second-guessing. You loot, you die.

...The bottom line is that advocating gun control is essentially saying that that something like New Orleans can't happen here because the police will always be there. Well, New Orleans proves beyond all doubt that the police won't always be there. What 'cha gonna do when they come for you?"

My response:

"Maybe in the aftermath, we can discuss New Orleans' gun control laws. Do they have any? If so, why didn't they prevent the violence that lawlessness brings? [wink wink]"

This is certainly something to think about. There will be a world of stories coming off of this tragedy about American Predators and American Citizens taking up arms for both evil and good. I look forward to breaking them down to discover what truths, if any, are revealed in the tales of menace and defense.

Do you honestly believe that people who are "looting" food and bottled water should be shot on sight? Or should they starve and drink sewage infested water and die of cholera?

Yes, sort of. When you are armed in a peculiar situation such as this, you don't necessarily need to shoot to kill; often times the open display of arms will prevent you from becoming the target of anyone's desires or wrath. It is possible to shoot into the air or a safe backstop to "show your resolve," creating in the minds of the "honest looter" [rolleyes] and the "dishonest looter" [rolleyes] the mutual understanding that it might be a good idea for them to go away. Brandishing weapons WORKS.
